چکیده
Blood pressure, height, weight, maturation, triceps skinfold thickness, serum lipids, and hemoglobin were measured as risk factors for coronary artery disease in 3,524 children (93% of the eligible population) in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Nine blood pressures were taken on each child by trained observers with mercury sphygmomanometers (Baumanoneter) and Physomerics automatic recorders in a rigid randomized design in a relaxed atmosphere with other children present. The pressures observed were low compared to reported

Original Contribution The Association of Birth Weight with Developmental Trends in Blood Pressure from Childhood through Mid-Adulthood The Bogalusa Heart Study
Low birth weight has been found to be associated with cardiovascular mortality and morbidity and with an adverse profile of several cardiovascular risk factors. The inverse association between birth weight and blood pressure was consistently reported from many populations. Using longitudinal data from the Bogalusa Heart Study (Louisiana), the authors investigated the association between birth w...
متن کاملLeukocyte telomeres are longer in African Americans than in whites: the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Family Heart Study and the Bogalusa Heart Study
Leukocyte telomere length (LTL) is ostensibly a bio-indicator of human aging. Here we report that African Americans have longer LTL than whites. We studied cross-sectionally 2453 individuals from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Family Heart Study (age = 30-93 years) and the Bogalusa Heart Study (age = 19-37 years), comprising 1742 whites and 711 African Americans. We measu...

Breakfast consumption has been identified as an important factor in the nutritional well-being of children. Several studies have indicated that omission of breakfast or consumption of an inadequate breakfast is a factor contributing to poor school performance and to dietary inadequacies that are rarely compensated for in other meals of the day. Differences have also been observed in the nutrien...
متن کاملDifferences in body shape representations among young adults from a biracial (Black-White), semirural community: the Bogalusa Heart Study.
In this study, the authors examined body image perception and body mass index (weight (kg)/height (m)(2)) among race-gender groups in a biracial (Black-White) population of young adults in Bogalusa, Louisiana. A mail-out survey was completed in 1994 by 3,698 (65%) participants aged 18.5-35 years in the Bogalusa Heart Study (mean age = 27.6 years). As part of the survey, body image perception wa...
